Gmail type stars in Evernote

This week I saw a Twit from danomanion asking for stickies or stars in Evernote on specific notes.

I had been thinking along the sames lines; a Google Reader / GMail type stars on specific notes, and a way then to see all my starred notes quickly.

There are certain notes I need to see frequently, and fast.

I think danomanion and my need can be solved easily. I went to the handful of notes I wanted to be able to get quickly, and added a new tag to each, that of course I called "starred".

Then I created a Saved Search that searched All Notes for the notes with a tag "starred".

It's simple really, click on "All Notebooks" and then in Evernote's search box, type in "tag:starred". Your starred items appear.

Then go down to Saved Searches, right click and choose "Create Saved Search", and name it "See Starred Notes".

Now every time you click that, the starred list notes appears.

To add a new items to the Starred list, just give it the tag "Starred". To remove an item, removed the tag.

    Nice tip..there is a typo: "tags:starred" should be "tag:starred".
    But, in my case, I have my tags always open, which makes it a pain to scroll down to saved searches, or close collapse the tags and then click on the saved search. Instead, I press ctrl+F11 and start typing starred and there it is! much faster..but saved searches can do wonders for more complicated searches...

Notes Folder : My new note taking system

I'm in the process of moving to a new way to keep my notes. Recording your own notes with Google Voice

Note :   April 2016:  Frankly I don't know if this works anymore.  It is 7 years old. I stopped using this when Google Now became useful on my phone, and I could dictate reminders using it. I found a way a while ago to use Google Voice to record a personal note, transcribe it, and email it to me. A recent Lifehacker post "Five Things We'd Like to See in Google Voice" lists that need as their #5 request, so I realized what I'd figured out is not common knowledge. Ten Years of Evernote

This blog post was set to publish exactly as the day begins on Tuesday, July 31, 2018. That is ten years to the day after my first Evernote  post. With my second note, I was already getting down to business; recording the agreement I'd come to on the phone on a minor business matter. My affection for Evernote has not dimmed since that day ten years ago. Since then, I've accumulated about 7.8 new notes a day. Ironically, I have needed to pull up only a few notes a year. Yet, when I need them, I need them badly and am glad to have Evernote all over again.
